Sacramento’s next roster move after signing Russell Westbrook

The The Sacramento Kings signed veteran guard Russell Westbrook on Wednesday, one of the last big dominoes to fall before the start of the season. But the Kings weren’t done adding to their roster after signing Westbrook. The Kings followed that up with another training camp signing the veteran wing DaQuan Jeffries, according to Michael Scotto of Hoopshipe.com.
With the signing of DaQuan Jeffries, the Kings training camp roster now stands at 16 players, with all three spots on a two-way contract filled. Of those 16 standard contracts, 14 are guaranteed deals with Terrence Davis on the 10-proof deal. While details on Jeffries’ contract weren’t immediately available, it’s likely to be a 10-proof deal as well.
It’s possible that Jeffries and Davis will battle in camp and the preseason for the Kings’ final roster spot. What’s more likely is that none of them will make the team and the Kings will enter the regular season with 14 players on the roster.
But should Jeffries end up on the final roster, the Kings are getting a player familiar with the organization. Jeffries began his NBA career with the Kings after going undrafted in 2019. Over the course of six seasons, Jeffries suited up for the Kings, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks and the Charlotte Hornets he most recently played for.
Last season, Jeffries appeared in 47 games for the Hornets, including 20 starts, logging just over 22 minutes per game. The Hornets initially acquired Jeffries the blockbuster trade of Karl-Anthony Towns as part of the salary dump. They decided to keep him on the roster for the entire season.
He averaged a career-high 6.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists on 40.5 percent shooting from the field, 33.5 percent from the three-point line and 80 percent from the free throw line.
