Scotty Barnes shares a simple plan to let Brandon Ingram do the cooking
When is it Toronto Raptors acquired Brandon Ingram back in February, there wasn’t much fanfare resulting from the trade. After all, Ingram was on the mend with recurring wrist issues, and the New Orleans Pelicans couldn’t seem to get him permanently healthy. But Ingram has proven to be a transformative presence for the Raptors. Ingram has yet to miss a game this season for the nascent Raptors, leading them to a 110-99 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.
On Monday night, Ingram scored a season-high 37 points for the Raptors, a career high for his new team, as he made mincemeat of a short Cavs team that struggled to handle him defensively. He made 15 of his 30 field goals that night, and when RJ Barrett went out, he took it upon himself to be the main man on offense for his team.
Ingram seems to have let himself wear down his defenders game plan for the Raptors, if Scottie Barnes‘ comments after the game are any indication.
“Give him the ball, get out of the way, he’s going to put it in the basket,” Barnes said, according to William Lue of the Hello and Welcome Podcast.
Ingram seems to be at his best when he’s part of the offense, and the Raptors certainly understand what it takes to get the best out of him. And to Ingram’s credit, he got the job done. With games like this, the team will increasingly believe he has what it takes to get the team back to the postseason — and maybe make some noise when they get there.
Brandon Ingram’s career is being revived with the Raptors

As was the case with former Pelicans players, it appears that their careers will be better once they escape New Orleans. Dyson Daniels became one of the best defenders in the league when he was acquired by the Atlanta Hawks. And now, Ingram is playing some of the best basketball of his career, restoring Toronto’s faith in him.
They’ll look to keep that up on Wednesday when they face the moribund Indiana Pacers in NBA Cup action.
