Sean McVay praised JJ Redick in a moment LA fans will love

Recently, the The Los Angeles Lakers started their 2025-26 season with a disappointing home loss to the Golden State Warriors in relatively lopsided fashion. The Lakers got a masterpiece of 43 points by Luka Dončić but they saw their poor roster structure come back to bite them in second place, all with LeBron James taking things over on the sidelines due to injury.

This offseason, the Lakers signed a head coach JJ Redick to a long-term extension in a move that puzzled some after the playoff team fell apart a year ago. However, one person Redick has a lot of respect for is the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams Sean McVaywho recently participated in the show “Run It Back” in convey his praises.

“There’s a willingness to share because we’re not in the same competitive space. JJ is a guy who’s super smart, he’s interesting. … Spending some time with JJ this offseason, his playmaking capacity is so impressive. … I’m like, ‘man, his capacity is beyond,'” McVay said. “You can tell there’s ownership, there’s a security that you can let his players make big contributions, and I think that’s such a big thing in this league, the amount of time you spend with each other.”

Can the Lakers hold down the fort?

Los Angeles Lakers fans are eagerly waiting for LeBron James to return to the court. Until then, the team will hope for better performances from their players, who mostly struggled in the game against the Warriors.

In the meantime, Redick will have his work cut out for him to try to figure out how best to configure his lineups in James’ absence. Against the Warriors, Gabe Vincent started in the backcourt and struggled mightily, though that could change depending on matchups for certain opponents.

The Lakers will next take the floor on Friday at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the team that gentlemanly knocked them out of last year’s playoffs.
