Shai Gilgeous-Alexander earns Michael Jordan compared to Paul Pierce

Doc Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has achieved a historic feat share with Michael Jordan, Paul Pierce drew a strong comparison between the league’s reigning MVP and the Hall of Fame guard. After the Thunder’s 123-115 win over the Portland Blazers, Gilgeous-Alexander reached his 93rd straight game of 20+ points. He surpassed Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 92.

After the game, Pierce described Gilgeous-Alexander aura as similar for Hall of Fame guard Michael Jordan, he said, giving no offense.

“You can’t stop him. He’s starting to give me that Jordan presence. Like, seriously,” Pierce said. “I look like he’s going to get 30. We’ve had Kobe, LeBron, KD, and they’re going to have big nights, but this guy’s got 30. Like, come on, man.”

Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting, five assists and one steal in Sunday’s win against the Blazers. After the game, Thunder All-Star Jalen Williams was in awe of his teammate’s second-longest streak of 20+ points in a game with his 93rd straight performance.

“Pretty impressive streak. Out of 20 (points) you say? Holy shit, bro,” Williams said. “It’s pretty crazy. I mean, seeing him work over the summer, seeing him work tirelessly on his body and his craft, it’s not that much of a shock to me to hear that statistic. He works hard enough, and he’s outperforming a lot of competition where it’s almost expected.”

Sitting front row to watch the league’s reigning scoring champion, you can almost forget how elite the SGA scorer is compared to the rest of the league, as Jalen admits.

“We probably take it for granted,” Williams added. “Then when you see stats like that, it kind of puts it back into perspective. How hard he works and tries to perfect his craft, it doesn’t shock me either.”

Thunder All Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander accomplished the 19-game feat last played by Hall of Fame guard Michael Jordan. In the midst of the second-longest streak of 20+ point games in NBA history, Gilgeous-Alexander also managed 30+ performance points through his first 20 games of the 2025-26 campaign, according to ESPN Insights.

“Shai Gilgeous-Alexander became just the second player in the last 50 seasons to have 16 30-point performances in a 19-game season. The second is Michael Jordan, who did it 17 times in 1986-87,” ESPN Insights reported.

Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 32.5 points on 54.5/41.4/88.7 shooting, 6.6 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game this season. What’s most impressive about SGA tying Jordan’s 19-game streak is the number of times he scored 30+ points in three quarters of a Thunder win.
