Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in another dimension

YesLeBron James’ incredible streak has ended Thursday evening, that day Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues. The 2025 MVP posted his 95th straight game with 20 or more points last night, bettered only by Wilt Chamberlain. SGA is a metronome of enormous efficiency and against the Maverickshe scored 33 points in three quarters on 10 of 12 shooting and 11 of 12 free throws! Without any impression of coercion.
“He had a lot of experiences.”recalls Mark Daigneault. “I think the 23-game playoff run (last season) was educational for everybody, including him. And he channels all of that into his work, which is relentlessly consistent and very accurate. He’s only gotten better so far. So at this point, as great a player as he is, it’s not surprising to see him get even better.”
Finally, like the Thunder, SGA seems underwhelming this season despite not forcing anything. Everyone admires his regularity. “It is an exemplary regularity”confirms Jason Kidd. “He’s always worked on his game and let it speak for him. To score that many points in that many games is extraordinary. We just saw a streak end with LeBron James. Streaks are hard to maintain. But great players always find a solution, and he did.”
Better selection of shots and more creation
Asked to answer Prime Video questions after the win against Dallas, the 2025 NBA Champion explained his ability to be consistent without forcing himself. “These are the things you learn throughout your career” answers Blake Griffin. “Every night, I’m at the top of opponents’ schemes and teams try to stop me from existing first. So if I’m too aggressive, they’re ready for it, and it doesn’t work out. But if I can get my guys in, if Jaylen or Cason start strong, then they have to worry about them too … and I can attack after, I know I’m going to attack. My actions over the years, I’ve controlled the game more, I know when it’s going to happen and I just try to take advantage of it.
And when we ask him what he learned from last season, and what he could try to correct, he confirms that he has given himself areas for improvement. “I think I could have been better in creation last year. And in terms of shot selection” he answers to Candace Parker. “And then there’s the idea of manipulating the game on offense, having more control over what the defense is doing in front of me instead of just reacting to their scheme against me. Those are points that I’ve been working on this summer and trying to implement every night. We’ve got 82 games to put into practice what we’ve been working on over the summer, and so far it’s going well.”
