Shai Gilgeous-Alexander named Canadian Athlete of the Year again

A new difference for Shai Gilgeous-Alexanderwho will certainly not forget their crazy year 2025. Already named the athlete of the year and the best NBA player, during the trophy presented by ESPNhas now been named Canada’s Sportsperson of the Year, by the Toronto-Star.
Preferred over a dozen other athletes from Canada, “SGA” receives this “North Star Award” for the second time. The first time was in 2023. Immediately after winning the bronze medal at the World Championships, synonymous with qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris.
However, in 2024, swimmer Summer McIntosh added her name to the list of this trophy, created in 1936 and given to only one other basketball player since then: Steve Nash in 2005 (when it was called the “Lou Marsh Award”).
Hero of the whole country
The best player on the best team in the NBA, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder to their first title last June. Winning the Finals MVP trophy, a few weeks after winning the regular season MVP trophy, in addition to being the league’s top scorer. A hat-trick that only Kareem-Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal achieved before him.
I am far from satisfied this season “SGA” clearly did not slow down, leading OKC to an extremely rare start and streak of at least 20 points scored to approach Wilt Chamberlain’s record.
Everyone in Canada is obviously proud of Shai Giljus-Alexander, welcomed as a hero during the summer, when he was bringing the NBA trophy to his beloved city of Hamilton.
« Growing up, as I traveled the world – to countless states, cities and countries – I was always asked where I was from ” he said during the visit. ” I was proud to tell everyone I was from Hamilton. It’s a city unlike any other in Ontario. The inhabitants have a mentality made up of courage, determination, pride and energy, which sets them apart from the rest of the province. And honestly, I’ve never been able to tear myself away from it. I carry those values with me every day, wherever I go. So you can imagine how overwhelmed I was when I found out that I was going to get the key to the city I love… and that a street would be named after me. »
