Shai and his wife Haley Summers welcomed a boy named Ares in April 2024. Presti, revered as one of the NBA’s best GMs, is considered the mastermind behind what could be the league’s next dynasty. Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander reflected on his team’s mentality heads into Saturday’s NBA Cup semifinal game against the Spurs, unchanged from the regular season. The old adage that the defending champions go from hunters to hunted does not apply to this year’s Thunder team.
For Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder’s approach hasn’t changed from last season because his team continues to grow in cohesion with the overall goal of becoming the first back-to-back NBA champions since the Warriors.
“We’re going out there with a hunter mentality ourselves, and honestly, we’re going out there to get better,” Gilgeus-Alexander said. “I’m sure you’ve heard stories about some of my teammates competing against each other during games to get steals, things like that — that’s what’s in our heads. We’re trying to be a better version of ourselves every night we go out there, we like to hunt in that shape.”

While Gilgeous-Alexander is having another MVP-caliber season, averaging 32.6 points on 56.2% shooting, including 45.4% from deep, 6.5 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game this season, the Thunder will look to extend their franchise streak in Saturday’s NBA Finals 1. against Spurs.
