Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shows off crazy jump shots with Rudy Gobert’s block

Is there anything Shai Gilgeous-Alexander can’t? The Oklahoma City Thunder a superstar is widely considered favorite for MVPbut on Friday night vs Minnesota Timberwolveshe decided to submit his application for Defensive Player of the Year as well.

Late in the second quarter at Target Center, SGA produced what was likely a defensive play sequence. With just under two minutes left in the half, the Wolves are ahead Jaden McDaniels drove to the rim for a pull-up jumper. Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t just dispute it; he deleted it.

But he didn’t finish. The ball dropped right into the hands of Rudy Gobertliterally quadruple DPOI, who looked ready for an easy layup. Instead, SGA loaded up and jumped off the floor for the second time, knocking down the 7-foot center at the rim. The sequence left Gobert so flustered that he was able to rebound and miss the dunk on the first down when the ball fell to him again.

“MVP or DPOI?” was the immediate sentiment on social media, and it’s hard to argue with that. Gilgeous-Alexander has been a two-way terror for the 25-2 Thunder all season. While his 32 points again led OKC, that’s the kind of game it is, knocking off two athletic finishers in one possession, that separate him from the rest of the pack.

The Thunder eventually took control of the game, but this double-block sequence would be a highlight for the rest of the season. When your point guard is defending the rim against Rudy Gobert, you know things are going well.

Shai is on the job, and the rest of the league has been officially notified.
