Shams Names Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium “Strong” NBA Cup Finals Option

Recently, the NBA Cup concluded with the New York Knicks defeating the San Antonio Spurs, winning the third iteration of the tournament. Final rounds NBA Cup have been played in Las Vegas since its inception in 2023, but some fans were looking for a more iconic venue for the championship game than T-Mobile Arena, which doesn’t exactly have a legendary basketball background.

Recently, NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN went on “NBA Today” to ensure the latest update in a new potential place for the final game in the coming seasons.

“The NBA has Duke and Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina as among its strong options to host the Cup Championship Game, potentially as early as 2026. So, as the league looks outside of Las Vegas, could there be a high-level college program like Duke to host the game?” Charania wondered, according to MrBuckBuck on X, formerly Twitter.

Of course, this research process appears to be in the preliminary stages at this point, but it would certainly be a sight to see the NBA Cup Finals played in such an iconic venue as Cameron Indoor Stadium.

For the past three years, the NBA has been looking for ways to spark fan interest in the Cup, and while the average person won’t necessarily get excited about a hundred millionaires getting an extra $500,000, the financial incentive seemed to help motivate players to give it their all.

Either way, it could be a while before the NBA announces any major changes to its cup format. For now, the New York Knicks will celebrate their championship by refusing to hang the banner at Madison Square Garden.
