Sidney Sweeney breaks her silence after Christie’s box office flop
While recently Christy Martin biopic flopped at the box office, its star, Sidney Sweeney, revealed that she is still “so deeply proud” of the film.
Sweeney published a various behind the scenes photos from the production of Christi. Her lengthy caption spoke of her pride in the project – calling it “the most influential project of my life” – and also said it flopped at the box office.
“I am so deeply proud of this film,” Sweeney began. “(I’m) proud of the film David (Michod) made. (I’m) proud of the story we told. (I’m) proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin. This experience was one of the greatest honors of my life.
“This film represents survival, courage and hope. Through our campaigns, we have helped raise awareness of many affected by domestic violence. We all signed this film with the belief that Christina’s story can save lives,” she continued.
She thanked the fans who went and saw Christy during the first weekend. Sweeney knows the film’s success has been overwhelming, but she takes the high road, arguing that “we don’t always make art just for the numbers.” Instead, they do it for “impact”.
“Thank you to everyone who saw, felt and believed and will believe this story for years to come,” Sweeney told her fans. “If Christy has given even one woman the courage to take that first step toward safety, then we will succeed. So yes, I’m proud.”
“Why? Because we don’t always make art for numbers, we make it for impact. And Christi was the most influential project of my life. Thank you, Christi. I love you,” she continued.
