Sophie Cunningham takes a candid look at Michael Porter Jr’s remarks. WNBA
Indiana Fever‘s Sophie Cunningham replied to Brooklyn Nets‘ Michael Porter Jr.’s controversial opinion on the WNBA The All-Stars hypothetically face off against a McDonald’s All-American high school team. Porter Jr. says the most talented high school players in the country would beat the WNBA All-Star team or the United States women’s Olympic team.
Cunningham, who also attended the University of Missouri, Porter Jr.’s alma mater, agreed with veteran’s take, according to her podcast, Show Me Something by Sophie Cunningham & West Wilson.
“So I would say that’s probably true. I mean, it’s probably true,” Cunningham said. “I don’t want to be unrealistic or delusional, like men are just stronger, bigger, athletic. Like they’re just built differently. And if that’s the case, if you put them up against women, well, yeah, they’re going to win, come on.”
For Cunningham, it’s a biological attitude that doesn’t just apply to basketball.
“If you’re a professional football player, basketball player, really any sport,” Cunningham added. “But let’s just take basketball, because we’re both there. Like me, if you’re in that group at an elite level, yeah, you should be able to beat the girls.”
Porter Jr. has received a lot of criticism for his vision of the NBA’s top prospects beating out women who are already in the pros. However, given the athletic and physical advantages, Cunningham says boys would be heavily favored.
Michael Porter Jr.’s controversial WNBA move

Networks forward Michael Porter Jr. said a lot over the summer, making controversial statements about sports gambling and a hypothetical WNBA All-Star game against the McDonald’s Bois All-American team. Porter Jr.’s name was mentioned in many headlines over the summer.
Still, Porter Jr. stood by his position at the WNBA All-Stars, he said, on LakeShow’s X, formerly Twitter.
“I’m the biggest fan of the WNBA,” he said. “I have two sisters who beat me every day in basketball for most of my childhood. Like, I’m the biggest WNBA fan. I grew up with Sophie Cunning. She’s from my (town) too, so we talked a little bit about just cutting it and talking on the podcast and stuff.”
