Spencer Dinwiddie puts herself in the middle of a PG search

and, The The Houston Rockets are reportedly in the market for a veteran point guard at the 2026 NBA trade deadline Eleven-year veteran Spencer Dinwiddie believes he can be the solution to a potential problem for the team.

Dinwiddie, 32, hasn’t played in the NBA during the 2025-26 season, but he still believes he can they contribute to a struggling team. Dinwiddie believes he would be the most helpful to the Rockets, who lack a true point guard in their rotation with Fred VanVleet out this year.

“I would love to go to the Rockets,” Dinwiddie said on the “Buckets Don’t Stop” podcast. “One of my best NBA friends, Dorian Finney-Smith, is with the Rockets. I think VanVleet’s injury really hurt them. I think they have all the makings of a championship-type team. They have young talent in (Jabari) Smith and (Amen) Thompson. They have a great threat and creator in (Alperen) All-World scoring in (Alperen)

“I think a guard that can go inside, catch and shoot with Sengun and KD (and) set the table would definitely help. Obviously they have enough defense and three and D. I think all the conditions are there. I would absolutely love to play there. We’ll see what happens at the trade deadline.”

Dinwiddie is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with FC Bayern Munich in early January, just three months after signing a one-year deal. He signed with the German team after being released by the Charlotte Hornets in October 2025.

The situation with the Rockets guards

The Rockets have denied interest in trading the point guard, but that remains the biggest hole on their roster. Houston does not have a true point guard in its rotation, currently using Amen Thompson as its primary ball handler.

Although Thompson is not a true point guard, he has handled the role better than many expected. The former third-year lottery pick is averaging career highs of 18.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game midway through the 2025-26 season. He comes with a Career 14 assist game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.
