Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama, Chris Paul share a special moment with JJ Redick’s sons

After a 126-102 win against Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs stars Victor Vembanyama and Chris Paul they gave their worn jerseys to the sons of Lakers head coach JJ Redick.

The wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles and some of the surrounding areas destroyed the Reditz home in Pacific Palisades. Due to the fire and subsequent damage, two of the Lakers’ games, including a Jan. 11 game against the Spurs, are postponed. Monday night’s outing against the Spurs at Cripto.com Arena marked the franchise’s first contest since the fires started.

I am talking to Vembanyama about the moment Redick noted that the moment meant a lot to his sons, who lost their signed jersey and card collections in the fire.

“(I) hosted a podcast out of my home for two years, all the players would come in and (Redick’s sons would) get their jerseys or get their tickets signed,” Redick said. “They had a collection of jerseys and cards.”

“They lost it all (in the wildfire),” Reddick said.

“I heard about it,” Vembanyama revealed.

Paul, who was teammates with Redick when the two were with the Los Angeles Clippers, approached Wembey about giving away their jerseys to his former teammate’s sons, Knox and Kai, after Monday night’s game.

“Me and JJ are the ultimate competitors,” Paul said. “As close as we are, we hate to lose, win or what not.” But I actually told him I wanted to do it for his boys. I know how big basketball fans they are. It’s a difficult situation.”

Although he is in his first year as the head coach of the Lakers, Redick has played in the NBA for 15 years.

“When you’re in the league long enough, you have this big circle, and it’s the people you love, the people you love, and then it’s your brothers — and Chris is in that inner circle of brothers,” Redick said of Paul.

“You play a lot of years in this league and some guys are just teammates, but JJ is part of my family,” Paul reiterated.

JJ Redick is grateful for the appreciation from the Spurs players

Since retiring from professional basketball in 2021, Redick has worked in broadcast media. Pavle, nine years older than him, He played for the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriorsand the Spurs since that time.

“He called me this afternoon,” Redick said of Paul. “He said, ‘Vic and I are going to go, whether you win or we win, we’re going to go and give the guys jerseys. And he is well aware that they are big NBA fans.”

“I didn’t know there were big fans like this,” Vembanyama admitted, “but I like JJ the person who was directly affected by this. If I can make those kids’ day, I will.”

Redick played for six teams during his NBA career, Paul was responsible for seven. Their paths crossed with the Clippers from 2013 to 2017. Those four seasons laid a foundation that continues today.

“It was nice of them to do that.” And now they each have two because Austin (Lakers guard Austin Reaves) was kind enough to leave a pair in his locker after practice the other day. So I just, I appreciate all the love. “I’m not surprised Chris did something like that,” Redick said.

For Paul, who also has a home in the LA area, it was the least he – and Wemby – could do.

“Him and his wife, those kids… I know a lot of people lost family members, homes, things like that.” “It’s different when people are close to you,” Paul said.
