Star DT drops truth bomb after dominating Texas Tech

Many fans joined in College Football Playoff The Orange Bowl was expecting a heavyweight fight, but it was instead Oregon defense that blew Texas Tech out of the water. If the performance didn’t speak volumes, Ducks star defensive tackle A’Maury Washington perfectly summed up how his entire team felt in the win.
Washington was part of a wild Oregon defensive line that didn’t allow Texas Tech’s offense to ever shift into second gear. After the victory he claimed he could say his team’s pressure caused the Red Raiders to start “shutting down” early.
“It’s a hell of a feeling,” Washington said, via Eric Skopil of 247 Sports. “You could see it on their faces; they’re tapping. If they’re tapping, you’ve got to keep stepping and finish the whole fucking game. All four quarters and overtime, if it comes.”
Texas Tech entered the game averaging 462.7 yards and 40.3 points per game, both in the top 10 in the nation. They managed just 215 yards in the 23-0 loss while committing four turnovers.
Washington recorded just one pass deflection in the game, but was a significant factor in Oregon’s stout defensive front, which physically dominated the Texas Tech offensive line all afternoon. The Ducks collected four sacks and seven tackles for loss in the game and broke up numerous passes at the line.
Oregon’s biggest star, however, was freshman cornerback Brandon Feeney Jr. The show touted Finney from start to finish as the future of Dan Lanning’s defense, as he sandwiched a pair of interceptions with a fumble recovery.
Oregon’s defense will have a bigger task in the third round, when it faces either Indiana or Alabama. The top-ranked Hoosiers look to break the four-seed College Football Playoff curse against the Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl.
