Star freshman VR out for season due to injury

Florida football witnessed another major loss on Sunday. The Gators are already working without sacks Billy Napier. Now a star freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson goes out for a year with his CFB injury.

Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports announced the unfortunate news from Gainesville on Sunday. Wilson left the Georgia game early and in the middle of the KJ Bolden offense. The The Gators gave Georgia a scare before Florida fell apart in Saturday’s loss.

Wilson eventually returned to the Gators sideline, but with a boot over his right leg. It’s clear his leg will keep him from running more routes for the program in its search for a new head coach.

Wilson is one of the last greats college football recruiting wins over Napier — who earned four stars away from Alabama, Oregon and Miami.

Wilson leaves catching just 12 passes for 174 yards with three touchdowns.

He had one outing for 100 yards against Texas with one crazy catch. But that 111-yard, six-catch performance became Wilson’s only game to surpass the triple-digit yardage mark.

Wilson joins Aidan Mizell and Vernell Brown III as significant injuries at wide receiver heading into the 2025 season. But the accumulation of injuries isn’t the only trending story in The Swamp.

Napier’s departure created one of the more intriguing head coaching openings in college football for ’25. Billy Gonzalez is navigating Florida in a transition period, but names are emerging as possibilities for UF.

Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin is a trending name being mentioned among multiple outlets. Former Penn State HC James Franklin is another nod for Florida’s next coach.

Florida is now one of four SEC school in search of a new head coach. Auburn joined the Gators, LSU and Arkansas in firing their head coach Hugh Freeze on Sunday — ending a three-season streak.
