Stephen A. Smith sees ‘orange and blue skies’ after NBA Cup win

After your favorite team won the 2025 NBA Cup Finals, New York Knicks Superfan Steven A. Smith is elated, which does not surprise anyone.
During the Wednesday, Dec. 17 edition of First Take, Smith celebrated the Knicks’ victory in the NBA Cup Finals. He was excited and in a great mood.
“I love everybody, and I mean everybody,” Smith exclaimed. “I love the NBA, I love all the networks, I love everything. Do you know why? Because orange and blue skies, baby! Orange and blue skies! It’s the NBA Cup this morning, (and) in a few months, it’s going to be the Eastern Conference (Finals), and we’re going to be in the NBA Finals.
“Have you seen the Knicks? Have you seen Jaylen Brunson? Have you seen OG Anunoby? That’s what I’ve been talking about, baby. It’s only a matter of time before that curse, that championship drought that stretches back to 1973, comes to an end! Go New York! Go New York! Go!” he continued.
Smith appears to be dead in his hopes for the Knicks. He believes it’s the NBA Cup Finals the first championship the team will win this season.
As Smith noted, it’s been more than 50 years since the Knicks last won an NBA championship. They last won the NBA Finals in 1973, and they won three more years earlier in 1970.
Since then, they have reached the NBA Finals twice (1994 and 1999). However, they have not won a single series, and are coming off a season in which they reached the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Knicks failed to beat the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2025. They lost the series in six games to the Pacers.
Now, the Knicks are 18-7 and enjoying an NBA Cup win. They won five games in a row (six, if you count the NBA Cup Finals).
