Stephen Curry knows Klay Thompson’s return is ‘far away’, but he’s not ruling it out

The The Golden State Warriors were a huge disappointment so far in the 2025-26 NBA season, he is currently 13-14 heading into Thursday night’s road game against the Phoenix Suns. Doc Stephen Curry continues to suffer Putting up herculean stat lines with impressive frequency, the team’s secondary has largely underperformed this year, leading the Warriors to their current mediocre record.

Losing has some fans who reminisce about the good old days when Klay Thompson he was still a member of the team, and more recently, the current point guard of the Dallas Mavericks became 100% honest about whether he could ever see a reunion with the bay.

“I don’t know,” Thompson said, per Anthony Slater and Tim McMahon of ESPN. “That’s a long way, man. That’s a lot of basketball to have. I don’t know what the future holds.”

Meanwhile, Curry also weighed in on the possibility.

“It would be amazing,” Curry said. “If that time comes and that conversation happens, of course I call him and say, ‘We want you back.’ And hopefully that will be a welcome message to him. But as we stand now, that seems like a distant reality. But he also left.”

Thompson left the Warriors after the 2023-24 season to sign with the Dallas Mavericks. He was hoping to be the missing piece on a team that made the Finals the previous season, but instead, the Mavericks inexplicably decided to trade franchise cornerstone Luka Doncic months later, leaving Thompson now languishing on a team that has no legitimate chance to compete anytime soon.

That being the case, it’s worth considering whether Thompson could rekindle his former magic if he were to return to the Warriors.

Either way, the Warriors and Suns will tip off at 9:00 PM ET.
