Stephon Castle connects with Victor Vembanjam for an Area 51 dunk against the Cavs

Victor Vembanyama connected with Stephen Castle for an amazing highlight as Area 51 duet during San Antonio Spurs match against Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night.

Vembanjama and Castle are in their second season together at Spurs. They formed the nickname Area 51 as a direct reference to combining their jersey numbers, developing incredible chemistry as a 1-2 punch in the team’s offense.

The duo once again showed their teamwork during San Antonio’s matchup against Cleveland. The Cavaliers turned the ball over as Castle went on a fast break and hit the ball off the board. He did it while Vembanyama was in pursuit, caught the ball and threw down a fierce two-handed dunk.

Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle continue to thrive as a powerhouse duo. However, their efforts were not enough as the Spurs lost to the Cavaliers 113-101.

The game was close through the first three quarters as San Antonio led 78-76. However, their defensive structure collapsed as Cleveland scored 37 points in the fourth quarter, something the hosts could not follow.

Perimeter shooting, ball movement and turnovers made the difference in this matchup. The Cavaliers won in all three categories by making 13 threes, dishing out 29 assists and limiting their turnovers to just 14. It wasn’t the same for the Spurs as they made seven threes, dished out 21 assists and turned the ball over 18 times.

Five players scored in double figures for San Antonio in the loss, including Vembanyama. He led the way with 26 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, one steal and a block. He shot 7 of 16 from the field, including 2 of 6 from beyond the arc and 10 of 12 from the free throw line. Castle had 15 points and eight assists, De’Aaron Fox had 14 points and three assists, Dylan Harper had 11 points and four rebounds, while Luke Cornett had 10 points and nine rebounds.

San Antonio fell to a 23-9 record on the season, holding second place in the Western Conference standings. They are ahead of the Denver Nuggets by one game and the Houston Rockets by two games while trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder by four games.

Spurs will look to bounce back in their next match, staying at home. They host the New York Knicks on December 31st at 7pm ET.
