Steve Kerr confirms he will never coach another team


Upon entering the final year of his contract, Golden State Warriors The future of head coach Steve Kerr was discussed as he decided not to extend during the offseason. As Kerr prepares for his 12th season as the Warriors’ head coach, he says if he returns for another season, it’s a conversation he would have to have with the team’s ownership.

However, Kerr wanted to make one thing clear: he trains another team not an option for his immediate future, ESPN’s Anthony Slater said.

“Management and ownership would have to want it to continue,” Kerr said. “I would have to want it to continue. Steph would have to. I’m not finishing my contract and saying, ‘Okay, I think I’m going to go for such-and-such a job’ somewhere around the league. That’s not happening.”

Amid a dozen seasons with the Warriors, Kerr isn’t interested in settling for second.

“This is not like a normal situation with a head coach in the last year of his contract, and it might be a bad situation,” Dunleavy Jr. said. “We know what’s up with Steve. He’s been here a long time. He’s been an incredible part of this franchise, and as far as I’m concerned, he can stay as long as he wants.”

“We’re going to give him the grace of the season to go through it or go through some of it to kind of get a feel and see where he’s at mentally, physically.”

While Dunleavy Jr. can’t fathom seeing another coach guide the future Hall of Fame guard, he knows the possibility exists.

“It’s hard to see Steve move on or to see Steph finish his career without Steve on the sidelines. I think it’s all going to work out,” Dunleavy Jr. said. “We’re going on Steve’s terms and at the moment he just wants to take it and see how the season goes – no problem from our end.”

The Warriors will host the Clippers in the preseason finale on Friday.
