Steve Kerr declares he will “never leave” Stephen Curry

On Saturday night, The Golden State Warriors are back into the win column with a narrow home win over the Phoenix Suns. While it hasn’t always been pretty, the Warriors have been able to do enough to bounce back from a recent loss in Phoenix in a matchup between the two teams two nights earlier.

This season has been tumultuous so far for Golden State, with Steve Kerrrotations that fluctuate wildly with the game, Stephen Curry he’s been in and out of the lineup due to injury, and Jimmy Butler isn’t putting up the stats his massive contract would suggest.

Through it all, though, Kerr is absolutely safe about one thing.

“I’m never going to leave Steph Curry,” he said, according to Jordi Fee-Platt of the Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.

Curry and Kerr’s partnership began 11 years ago when Kerr agreed to become the Warriors’ next coach after Mark Jackson was fired in the summer of 2014.

The Warriors found immediate success in their new era, with the team winning 67 games in 2014-15 and finishing with the NBA Championship, and went on to win three more titles over the next few seasons.

Now Curry is in the twilight of his career (though still routinely putting up monster stats), while the fanbase’s patience with Curry is starting to wear thin as he looks to integrate some of the Warriors’ younger pieces while still maximizing the remaining cap space of Curry, Butler and Draymond Green.

At this point, it’s unclear if the Warriors will win another championship in the Curry era, but Kerr seems willing to go with the ship.

Either way, the Warriors will next take the floor on Monday night at home against the Orlando Magic.
