Steve Kerr has ‘fingers crossed’ for Kristaps Porzingis injury update

The The Golden State Warriors have ended the Jonathan Cumminga era on whining. After years of unfulfilled expectations, unfulfilled potential and the Warriors’ quiet but burning desire for Kuminga to become the player they expected him to be after drafting him seventh overall in 2021, the Warriors traded him, along with Buddy Hield, to the Atlanta Hawks to bring Kristaps Porzingis in.

Porzingis’ talent, however, cannot be questioned his health problems became so obvious that it was a very risky move for the Warriors to acquire him in hopes of becoming the piece they need to rejuvenate the team after Jimmy Butler’s season-ending injury.

The Hawks waived Porzingis due to his unavailability; he’s played in just 17 games this season, and a battle with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) has kept him from suiting up as often as Atlanta would like.

The good news is yes Porzingis was a full participant in training before the Warriors’ Thursday night matchup against the Boston Celtics, even though he is the head coach Steve Kerr remains uncertain would he be healthy enough to play.

“He practiced. We’ll list him as questionable for tomorrow,” Kerr said, via ClutchPoints Warriors beat reporter Kenzo Fukuda. “But a full participant in training and fighting. It looked good. Fingers crossed, but so far so good.”

Can Kristaps Porzingis be as impactful as the Warriors need him to be?

Porzingis has the ability to be a power player for the Warriors; the problem, of course, is unavailability. He has incredible floor-spacing ability and is a fearsome shot blocker, making him perfect for the Dubs’ system.

The Warriors weren’t necessarily in a position to be picky about the risks they could take with their roster. The Kuming situation was out of their control; getting the former All-Star was as good as it’s going to get, especially when Kuminga hasn’t played much this season and is currently dealing with an injury himself.
