The Heat’s Erik Spoelstra on his experience with Steve Kerr on Team USA

The Heat head coach Spoelstra said that working in the US is an honor in life in the past, but there is undoubtedly pressure in leading the country after highly successful coaches previously held the mantle, such as Kerr, Gregg Popovich, Mike Krzyzewski and others. Even being on staff as an assistant was an experience he will never forget, entering into what he saw by Kerr during that time.
“I’m so incredibly grateful to have had that opportunity to be on his staff,” Spoelstra said. “The last two summers, the whole staff, we had such an amazing time. It was the experience of a lifetime. We all grew from it.”
“But I’ve been so impressed with Steve (Kerr), just in terms of how he’s been able to manage everything,” Spoelstra continued. “I mean, we all know there was a lot of pressure, and I think that’s part of his genius, he did it beautifully, just making the team, one, handle all the expectations, and then making the team go at the right time, and then being able to deal with adversity like we did. . . . That experience would be something I’ll never forget. The staff, we still have time to talk during the season.”

Either way, it will be an exciting time for Spoelstra when he becomes the coach of Team USA, but before that, there is the heat to focus on, as after Wednesday’s contest against Golden State, the team will play the Chicago Bulls on Friday.
