Suns’ Devin Booker faces harsh reality of playing amid trade rumors
The Phoenix Suns and trade rumors have been synchronized this season, and quarterback Devin Booker felt it to a considerable extent. After all, his teammate, Bradley Beal, was at the center of those discussions surrounding Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler.
Although Beal sent the Suns a strong reminder with its no-trade clause, that doesn’t mean there’s no stopping discussions. While Butler received another suspension, it opened the door for a possible trade. The day before that, the Suns received three first-round picks from the Utah Jazz for their 2031 first-round pick.
After all, trade rumors are a harsh reality in the NBA. Phoenix is no different than any other team during any other season. Booker explained via AZCentral’s Duane Rankin after Wednesday’s game on the importance of taking everything, one game at a time.
“Nothing surprises you at this point,” Booker said. “A lot of the things you hear never happen.” Some things you never hear about happen. We just have to lock into what we’re doing. We are all salaried professionals here. We will continue to do what we have to do and focus on the present and what is happening right now.”

Again, Beal’s no-trade clause makes things very interesting for Phoenix. He has the final say in trade. Unlike other trades where the organization can trade them at a moment’s notice, Beal holds the cards. That caused a decent amount of friction. Not to mention, Beal was subsequently benched after the New Year in an attempt to put some V’s in the win column.
As a result, it worked, but there are still some problems. Interestingly, Phoenix lost to Charlotte, and Booker made a firm request to the Suns after that upset loss. They ended their five-game road trip with a 3-2 record. It was not what they had hoped for. However, acquiring center Nick Richards halfway through and looking better is a sign of quality.
In about two weeks, The NBA trade deadline is officially coming to an end. The specific date is February 6. With Phoenix getting more draft picks and Butler’s suspension, it could be a matter of time before a move happens. However, that doesn’t mean rumors aren’t distracting.
Even with Beal missing Wednesday’s game with a sprained ankle, some thought he was on his way out. Despite this, he stayed with the team and watched the victory. Regardless, the rumors will continue until that February 6th date. For now, Booker and the rest of the team will continue to focus on winning and playing basketball consistently.
