Terry Rozier’s complaint could shake up Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade
With rumors surrounding the Miami Heat and a potential trade pursuit for stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ja Morant, the situation that has affected the team is the running back case Terry Rozier. As the basketball world goes by possible trade offers the Heat would make for Antetokounmpo and others, Rosie’s situation could affect their chances.
With Rozier facing federal arrest as part of a larger gambling investigation, there’s a sense Miami is frustrated with how the 2023 starter’s trade fell through. With Rozier being under an NBA investigation during his time with the Charlotte Hornets, which found no wrongdoing, the Heat were not privy to the deal talks that took place after they dealt a first-round pick and Kyle Lowry.
On ESPN’s “The Hoop Collective” podcast, insider Tim Bontemps would say that if Miami were to demand that the NBA that the team should be compensated because the NBA did not notify the team of the investigation, a first-round pick could be returned. Meaning, the team would have more options to offer in the potential chance that the franchise would go after someone like Antetokounmpo.
“Let’s say the Heat went to the NBA and said, ‘This wasn’t fair. We should have known about this.’ And the NBA says, ‘You know what? you are right. We’ll give you back this choice or the other.’ Then all of a sudden, the Heat could trade four picks, and they could trade three trades, and they could do their entire draft, and they could do whatever they wanted with their draft picks,” Bontemps wrote.
The Heat-Terry Rozier situation could help Giannis Antetokounmpo’s quest

With The guard in Rozier was arrested after the season openerthe speculation surrounding the situation was fascinating. However, the return of another first-round pick that could be traded would go a long way in Miami going after Antetokounmpo, and even Brian Windhorst has teased that they could go for a “Greek star” like Antetokounmpo.
“The Heat can trade two picks right now,” Bontemps said. “A first-round pick in 2030 and their first-round pick in 2032, and that’s it. Because their pick is owed to the lottery in ’27. And if they don’t make the playoffs, then it’s unprotected in ’28. That means they can’t trade this year’s pick, pick 27, or 28.”
Either way, it remains to be seen what will happen with Heat and Rozier, but they are currently 14-10 heading into Tuesday’s NBA Cup quarterfinal against the Orlando Magic.
