Texas, Oklahoma on the portal list for the North Texas Star



The college football transfer portal should open in just four days, and while many of The hottest stars of 2025 have already revealed their intentions, several elite skill position players are still finalizing their next move after exceptional seasons.

One of the most intriguing name to watch is North Texas running back Caleb Hawkinswhose breakout freshman campaign put him squarely on the radar of multiple power programs. According to a report by On3, Hawkins already arouses interest from some of college football’s biggest brands.

“A trio of schools have been mentioned in talks for the most popular returning transfer to this point: Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State,” according to the On3 report. “If he lands with the Cowboys, it would be a reunion with former North Texas head coach Eric Morris. He had 1,804 total yards and 29 touchdowns as a true freshman in 2025.”

Hawkins’ production supports attention. He finished strong in rushing yards with 1,434 while leading the FBS with 25 rushing touchdowns. He also proved to be a versatile weapon, adding 32 receptions for 370 yards and four more scores. All of that came as a true freshman.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound running back from Shawnee, Oklahoma, has collected an impressive list of honors, including AAC Rookie of the Yearfirst-team all-conference, Walter Camp second-team All-American status and New Mexico Bowl offensive MVP.

That performance on the bowl served as the final exhibition. Hawkins rushed 30 times for a career-high 198 yards and two touchdowns, while also contributing through air in a thrilling 49-47 win over San Diego State.

North Texas enjoyed a historic year, winning a program-record 12 games, with an offensive explosion that prompted major changes, including at head coach Eric Morris leaves for Oklahoma amid high interest and a wave of key contributors preparing to enter the portal when it officially opens on January 2.

Quarterback Drew Mestemakertop receiver Wyatt Young and Hawkins are among the many Mean Green players expected to explore new opportunities.

Meanwhile, for Hawkins, Oklahoma State presents a logical and more attractive option because of Morris’ arrival and Hawkins’ proximity to campus, although Texas and Oklahoma offer immediate national exposure and playoff contention.

With elite production, youth and versatility on his side, Hawkins is poised to become one of Portal’s most impactful additions when his decision time comes into focus.
