The 2026 NBA draft plans make a Treo Young trade less likely

As rumors surround the Dallas Mavericks up front at the February trade deadline, there were several players who were talked about, which is the star Anthony Davis and even rush hour Trae Young. With Mavericks and Hawks tied with each other in certain trade speculation, the latest information on how Young fits into the picture is given more context.

ClutchPoints’ NBA insider, Brett Siegel, would talk on “Clutch Scoops” along with fellow reporter Tomer Azarly about Dallas and whether there would be a reality in which, by trading Davis to Atlanta, the team would bring Young back. However, Siegel would say that “makes no sense” for replacement.

“They have Kyrie Irving back, Cooper Flagg has shown he can score at times, and the Mavericks appear to be targeting some backcourt help in the 2026 NBA Draft,” Siegel said. “So it doesn’t make sense for them to trade Trae Young for Anthony Davis. It doesn’t help the Mavericks right now.”

That would also be the case with Chris Hayes, who expressed last Saturday that while the Hawks have interest in Davis, a deal would not include Young if someone “materialize”.

At the end of the day, though, it looks like the Hawks and Mavericks could do business and make a deal for Davis, with Atlanta being the “top-tier top suitor.”

“So that really leaves Atlanta Hawks like that top suitor who wants to go AD,” Siegel said. “There’s really no other team that has reached out to the Mavericks at this point.”

Either way, Dallas is 12-22, which puts them in 12th place in the Western Conference heading into Thursday night’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
