The $440 million contract the Phillies have to offer Kyle Tucker to steal it from the Cubs

Kyle Tucker had a productive first season with Chicago Cubsbut now it seems it may be fit for someone else in 2026. The outfielder with four All-Star nods to his name is one of the the best free agents this year.

The Cubs certainly want him back, but in recent years, the free agent trend has been for powerhouse teams to offer unusual contracts that simply can’t be matched. The Philadelphia Phillies are already loaded with star power, but they could make a big move to lure Tucker away from Chicago.

Kyle Tucker could overshoot the Phillies

The Phillies have had a stellar core for a long time. Offensively, Bryce Harper is one of the best players of this generation and Kyle Schwarber is a perennial threat to lead baseball in home runs and/or walks. JT Realmuto, Trea Turner and Alec Bohm are all top players at their positions, and Nick Castellanos, while regressing, is a big name player. Even Harrison Bader has been playing great baseball since the team traded up for him last year.

Christopher Sanchez, Jesus Luzardo, Aaron Nola, Jhoan Duran and Zach Wheeler also make for a pretty impressive weapon unit. Unfortunately, this stockpile of talent did not result in a World Series, as the Phillies were regularly one of the best teams in baseball all year, only to suffer heartbreak in the postseason.

Now they will have to decide whether to bring back the entire core or cut their losses and go in a new direction. Realmuto, Schwarber and Bader are free agents, as are Ranger Suarez and Max Kepler. Whichever way the Phillies go, Kyle Tucker makes a lot of sense as a free agent addition.

Tucker is one of the the best players in the MLB. He would be a significant upgrade over Bader and/or Kepler if the team decided to move on from these outfielders. He would also provide the Phillies with some much-needed youth. Most of the Phillies’ core is already in their 30s, but Tucker is only 28 years old.

Tucker has a World Series Championship, a Gold Glove and two Silver Players. Reports suggest that he will be given a $400 million contract. That means the Phillies will likely have to overpay him to secure his services. Tucker would be more than worth the huge salary. Tucker has hit 134 home runs over the past five seasons.

He could help extend the Phillies’ championship streak or be the face of the franchise during a new era. Either way, Tucker has plenty of other suitors, so it would cost a pretty penny for Philly to sign him.
