The Anthony Davis trend remains on the Raptors’ mind due to injury concerns

The The Toronto Raptors were pleasant surprise so far this NBA season, is currently 24-17 heading into Wednesday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers on the road. The Raptors have seen strong play from Brandon Ingram and Scotty Barnes this year, and are currently in the driver’s seat to secure a top six seed in the Eastern Conference.
Still, the team isn’t resting on its laurels ahead of the upcoming NBA trade deadline, with Marc Stein recently breaking down what is the potential framework on Toronto’s trade for the Dallas Mavericks’ big man Anthony Davis it may look like.
“…any firm offer the Raptors make is expected to be built around an Immanuel Quickley or Jakob Poeltl deal along with RJ Barrett in the Davis deal,” Stein reported on his Substack, also noting that “even if the Raptors prove willing to attach a future first-round pick to those deals, such a deal would provide scant financial relief to Dallas.”
It was recently reported that Davis was undergoing surgery on a hand injury, but he later shot down that speculation on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints recently reported that Toronto he also had an interest in the Sacramento Kings, big man Domantas Sabonis, next to Davis.
“Sabonis is a very interesting name that has been consistently linked to Toronto, and league personnel continue to question any new information about the Raptors and Sabonis,” Siegel said.
Siegel also noted that with Jamaal Sheed establishing himself as a reliable guard in Toronto’s rotation, “Quickley’s cap figure would be the key to this franchise making a key upgrade at the trade deadline.”
Overall, it’s easy to see why the Raptors would want to be aggressive at the trade deadline, given how wide open the Eastern Conference appears to be. The frontcourt is certainly the biggest area of need in Toronto right now, so adding a player like Davis or Sabonis could give them the missing piece to fully unlock their potential.
