The Bears claim the former Chargers linebacker off waivers

With concerns about the Chicago Bears’ offensive line after rookie quarterback Caleb Williams led the league in sacks, general manager Ryan Poles made a move on Friday, it could help strengthen the trenches, the former claims Los Angeles Chargers linear, according to Jeremy Fowler on X.

“Bears claimed OL Jordan McFadden, per source,” Fowler wrote.

After Jordan McFadden was released on Jan. 9, it didn’t take him long to find a new home, as the Bears claimed him just a day later.

Considering the lack of depth in the trenches on both sides of the ball, this wasn’t too surprising a move by the Bears.

Developing Williams was supposed to be the Bears’ plan afterward selecting him as the No. 1 pick in 2024but it didn’t really shake things up in his rookie season.

Williams was sacked 68 times in 2024, leading the entire NFL in that category. Now, some of the sacks were his fault, but on more plays than the Bears would like to admit, Williams had pressure in his face before he even got a snap.

And while the Bears are looking to return in 2025, the Poles and company need to address the offensive line.

After five seasons with Clemson as a four-year starter, the Chargers drafted McFadden into the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

During his time with the Chargers, McFadden didn’t see the field much, appearing on 163 offensive snaps in 2023 and just once in 2024.

So while he is more than likely a depth player for the Bears, they are in desperate need of healthy bodies on the offensive line.

With Taven Jenkins’ future with the Bears looks murky as free agency approaches, chicago could lose a quality point guard if they don’t re-sign him. However, with Jenkins’ string of injuries since being drafted in the 2021 NFL Draft, the team could move on from him if both parties cannot agree to extend the new contract.

And while he’s not the same quality as Jenkins, the Bears have added depth to their offensive line, which they desperately need to continue to do this offseason.
