With just 4.3 seconds left in the game, Xavier came back to take a two-point lead. They fouled Austin Swartz, who hit his first free throw. He had a chance to tie the game on his second free throw. The shot was short. Swartz was able to grab his own rebound, pull up and hit the buzzer beater to win the game.
The whole game was tight. Creighton’s biggest lead of the game was seven points, and there were ten lead changes. Xavier’s defense stepped up toward the end of the game, as the team went on an 18-10 run to take the lead. However, Creighton would pull off a miracle and win.
Schwartz had a solid game in the win over Xavier, scoring 16 points and adding four rebounds and a steal. Meanwhile, Josh Dix led the way for the Bluejays. He scored 19 points, with three rebounds and two assists. The star of the day played for Xavier. Tre Carroll scored 29 points while shooting 12 of 14 from the field. In the victory, he added four rebounds, two assists and a steal. However, his effort was short-lived.
Creighton is now 12-8 and 6-3 in conference play. They will be back on the field next Tuesday, as the Bluejays visit Marquette.
