The Cavaliers wake up choking the Spurs!

If Stephon Castle (15 points, 8 assists) and Victor Wembanyama showed a show at the beginning of the match with the street against the board of the first Frenchman, Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade give the Cavs a ten-length lead (22-12). Keldon Johnson’s layup then sparked a 14-3 run, ending with a 3-point shot from Wemby which gives San Antonio an advantage at the end of the first quarter (26-25).
Two defenses dominate the debates. The two teams are clumsy and remain neck and neck (40-40). It took a notable performance from the duo of Stephon Castle – Luke Kornet (10 points, 9 rebounds) to allow the Spurs to pull away. Two players sign the score 13-2 which puts San Antonio at +11. A 3-point shot by Sam Merrill and two free throws by Donovan Mitchell (10 points, 3/12 shooting, 7 assists) however limit the damage before the break (55-49).
Spurs at a standstill
San Antonio is still in the lead, but its offense is faltering more and more. De’Aaron Fox (14 points, 4/13 shooting) and Victor Wembanyama provide the result as best they can, but 14 points from the duo of Jarrett Allen – Evan Mobley (16 points, 7 rebounds) brought the Cavs back into the game. De’Andre Hunter’s layup even ties the two teams (72-72).
With the wind in their sails, Kenny Atkinson’s men bring the point home. While the Spurs couldn’t find a solution to the attack, Jaylon Tyson (11 points) and Donovan Mitchell scored three winning shots to start an 18-4 run and take a ten-point lead (94-84). Despite Wemby’s best efforts, and in front of a stunned Frost Bank Center, San Antonio stalled. The skill of Darius Garland (15 points, 11 assists) ruined the match and the Spurs suffered their second loss in a row.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
18 turnovers for Spurs. While Keldon Johnson and Mitch Johnson expressed their disappointment after the Spurs’ loss to Utah this weekend, we expected to see the Texans revenge tonight. However, Wemby’s teammates gave a very poor performance. The Slash Brothers, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, lost 9 of their team’s 18 possessions. All of these turnovers gave the Cavs 20 points. The Spurs also lacked skill, finishing the match with 38% shooting and 22% three-point shooting.
Jarrett Allen wakes up the Cavs. On the road against Houston and the aggressiveness of the Rockets, the Cavs center responded in the best possible way, especially against Victor Wembanyama. Much more enterprising than in his last match, Jarrett Allen set the tone for his entire team. In a game where Cleveland lacked skill through the first three quarters, Allen, with good support from Evan Mobley, allowed the Cavs to stay in the game and come back in the third quarter.
Two defeats in a row for Spurs. This is only the third time this season that the Spurs have lost two games in a row. The last time was in mid-November during two Stephen Curry festivals in San Antonio. After an eight-game winning streak, including three against the Thunder, the Spurs are coming back down to earth a bit.
