The Giants were poised to draft Shedeur Sanders in 2024

The 2025 NFL Draft order is set and The Giants are locked in on the third pick but it appears they were ready to draft Shadow Sanders in the 2024 NFL Draft. According to a report from SNI’s Connor Hughes, the Giants had thoroughly scouted Sanders and were ready to select him.

“There’s talk in league circles about Sanders.” It’s been like that since before the end of the season. The Giants actually had a completed report ready on Sanders if he declared for last year’s draft. He would be a second or third round target,” Hughes said in his report.

Shedeur Sanders made headlines with his transfer from Jackson State to Colorado for the 2023 season. During his two years at Jackson State, Sanders put up impressive stats, amassing 6,983 passing yards on 616 of 901 attempts and 70 touchdowns. He kept turnovers to a minimum, throwing just 14 interceptions and averaging 268.6 passing yards per game. His outstanding performances earned him the 2021 SVAC Freshman of the Year Award and the prestigious Deacon Jones Award.

Sanders adjusted well to FBS play in the Pac-12 in 2023, finishing the year with 3,230 passing yards and 27 touchdowns on 69% completion. Although Colorado finished the season 4-8, Sanders should be great. Since Sanders helped lead a nine-win Colorado team to the Alamo Bowl and a top-25 finish at the end of the season, will he get consideration for the Giants in this year’s draft?

The Giants are in the market for a new quarterback and Sanders could be a good fit alongside wide receiver Malik Nabers as New York looks to lead a revamped offense. But the question is, will Sanders be available if the Giants select him with the third pick? The Titans, who have the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, also have a need at quarterback and could certainly select Sanders to be the KB1 of the future as they look to rebuild into an AFC contender.

The 2025 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 24.
