The Grizzlies plan to trade Ja Morant in the offseason after the missed deadline

The Memphis Grizzlies made it known last week that they want to take a new direction with their franchise. The first indicator was trading Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazzand in return they received three picks in the first round. The domino that many people were waiting for to fall was I Morantas trade rumors heated up leading up to the deadline.
Although the Grizzlies were unable to trade Morant, the goal is still the same for the team heading into the offseason, according to Joe Vardon of the Athletics.
“Memphis intends to trade Morant this summer, according to league sources. The team has patience for any short-term pain that may cause him to be held up at the deadline. Don’t look at the Grizzlies not responding to him as a change in direction,” Vardon wrote.
The Grizzlies didn’t seem to like any of the offers from interested teams before the deadline, and they were in no rush to trade Morant. When the offseason approaches, there’s a good chance they’ll be able to get more offers, and they should be better off with teams that have more funds to give away.
Morant is out with an injury for the last few games, and it is uncertain when he will return. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Grizzlies shut him down for the season as they try to get a top draft pick, but they may still decide to play him once he’s healthy.
The Grizzlies have done well to begin the turnaround of their franchise, and between the Jackson and Desmond Bain trades, they received seven first-round picks. As it stands, Morant may not have much choice, and the Grizzlies may have to settle for a Tree Young-type deal to move him.
