The Hawks easily dominate the Warriors

I Stephen Curry (31 points, 5 aces) aggressive, author of nine points, quickly gives advantage to the Warriors (14-4). With the exception of Curry, Golden State is struggling and the Hawks are clawing their way back into the game. The pair of Jaylen Johnson – Nikhil Alexander-Walker (24 points) then started a 17-2 run, which made the Chase Center rumble (18-14). Al Horford and DeAnthony Melton (10 points, 5 rebounds), as well as the awakening of Jimmy Butler (30 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists), were needed for the Warriors to take the lead at the end of the first quarter (28-27).
Jalen Johnson and Nickeil Alexander-Walker are essential
With Jaylen Johnson, Nickyla Alexander-Walker, and rookie C.J. McCollum (12 points, 4 assists) on the bench, Atlanta’s attack falters. They lost two turnovers and missed five of their first six shots in the second period, as Stephen Curry and Brandin Podziemski set up Golden State’s altruistic play to extend the deficit (37-29).
Snyder immediately restarts Johnson, but thanks to their defense and the wrist of Onyeka Okongwu (18 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists) and Vito Krejci, the Hawks answer with 11-2 (40-39). Jimmy Butler’s two 2+1 momentarily revive the Warriors, but two consecutive turnovers allow Alexander-Walker and McCollum to end the half with a 10-2 lead and give Atlanta six points (59-53).
Luke Kennard catches fire
Dyson Daniels (11 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds) and the Hawks hit the nail on the head after the locker room and moved to +12 (70-58). Still, in a tough situation, Golden State’s response was stunning. Two long-range baskets by Quinten Post and Stephen Curry, as well as three consecutive stops, allowed them to inflict a 10-0 on their opponent in 70 seconds (70-68)!
Despite a few magic tricks from Curry, the Hawks hung on but didn’t break. As a boss, it’s Jaylen Johnson who stops the bleeding. In the process, four three-pointers from Luke Kennard (22 points, 6/8 on 3-pointers) and a good pass from CJ McCollum knocked out the Chase center. Atlanta ends the quarter with a 24-8 lead and takes an 18-point lead (91-73)!
Golden State’s defense continues to lose Kennard, and Kennard continues to make them pay. He adds two new shots for three points, Onyeka Okongwu imitates him and the gap increases to +25 (106-81). Despite the surge from the Curry-Butler duo, the Warriors are too far behind to hope to turn the tide. Golden State’s setback, Atlanta’s third straight win.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
The Warriors did not sustain the rhythm in the second half. The end of the first half was predictable for the rest of the match, and the clumsy and wasteful Warriors gave the Hawks ammunition to settle into a fast-paced game and find their rhythm. Golden State had as many turnovers in the third quarter (5) as it did in the first half, and Atlanta made them pay, scoring 13 points on their mistakes. Luke Kennard was the main beneficiary. While the Warriors were abusing long range shooting despite their clumsiness, the Hawks sniper went 6/7 to allow his team to go 36-13 on Golden State in the third and fourth quarters.
Good start for CJ McCollum. For his first game in Atlanta, the former Wizard immediately showed what he can bring to his new team. Despite the lack of benchmarks in the Hawks collective, McCollum (12 points, 4 assists) was aggressive throughout the match. His ability to create his shot and stare down the defense to find open teammates was key to Atlanta’s win. Since the Johnson-Alexander-Walker pair is still strong, McCollum can come in and support them from the bench.
Zachary Rizacher misses second straight game. Already absent in Denver, Rizacher had to sit out again last night. The Frenchman is suffering from inflammation in his left knee. A priori nothing serious, but this injury comes at the wrong time when the winger just had two interesting matchups against the Raptors and Pelicans. He also set his career high for points and 3-pointers in a game this season in New Orleans (25 points, 7/9 from long range). He hopes to return in the next game against the Lakers.
