The Hawks hope to get Corey Kispert in a possible Tree Young trade

One of the biggest stories in the NBA in the last few days was report that Tree Young and the Atlanta Hawks are working together to find a new home for the All-Star. ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported Wednesday to the Washington Wizards were Young’s preferred destination, which would keep him in the Southeast Division.
New reporting has now been revealed one key piece that the Hawks would hope for a return in a potential Young deal.
“…The Hawks are interested in the Wizards.” Corey Kispert and — if the Trea Young trade to Washington goes through — Atlanta hopes to have Kispert in the deal,” NBA insider Marc Stein reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Kispert is an experienced scorer for the Wizards who wouldn’t do much to help the Hawks’ defensive concerns, but would add another piece of space around Jalen Johnson, who has taken over as the franchise’s new primary building block.
Most pundits have pointed out that CJ McCollum is likely the centerpiece of a potential trade of Young to the Wizards to match salaries, though it’s unclear whether the Hawks would want both McCollum and Kispert in the deal. For what it’s worth, both McCollum and Kispert will miss the Wizards’ Wednesday night game against the Philadelphia 76ers, which many fans are speculating may not be a coincidence.
Overall, the Hawks are 2-8 this year with Young in the lineup, and while they had already started to slump before he returned from his recent MCL injury, the team appears ready to move forward and try to build the roster around Johnson.
The Hawks will next take the floor – with Young sidelined with injury – on Wednesday night at home against the New Orleans Pelicans, a game that’s doubly important for Atlanta given that they own New Orleans’ 2026 draft pick.
