The Heat’s dream scenario for the 2025 NBA trade deadline

The Miami Heat they were expected to be a contender in the Eastern Conference this year, much like they have been competitive the past few seasons. However, the relationship between the organization and Jimmy Butler soured. This takes a toll on the team, as the Heat sit at 22-22, good for only the eighth seed in the East.

As it is NBA trade deadline approach, Miami has a major trade asset in Butler on its hands. As the deadline approaches, here’s what a dream scenario would look like for the Heat for the 2025 NBA trade deadline.

The Jimmy Butler Saga

Before the 2024-25 season, Butler revealed to the public that he intends to stay with the Miami Heat. But as the season wore on, that statement quickly soured. After a 128-115 loss at the hands of the Indiana Pacers, Butler made statements regarding his “joy” playing basketball in Miami. The Heat front office responded by dropping the hammer, slapping the face of the franchise with a seven-game suspension.

Unfortunately, that was not the end. Butler was suspended once again on the Heat, this time in two games. Superstar Heat apparently missed the team flight.

With the relationship between Butler and the Heat organization seemingly falling apart, the priority for the team right now is to move on from their disgruntled star. Fortunately for them, the Heat will be spoiled for choice before the NBA trade deadline. In fact, Miami was listening carefully to trade proposals from various teams for Butler.

Finding the perfect trade partner to relocate Jimmy Butler

Receiving heat: Marcus Smart ($20.2M), Brandon Clark ($12.5M), Luke Kennard ($9.25M), 2025 first-round pick (MEM), 2031 second-round pick (MEM)

Grizzlies get: Jimmy Butler ($48.8 million)

At this point, it’s safe to say the Heat eventually want to part ways with the face of the franchise. The Jimmy Butler saga affects the team’s overall performance on the field. To finally move Butler, the team must reach an agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies, even if the six-time NBA All-Star doesn’t want to play there.

Among the possible suitors for Butler, the Grizzlies appear to have the best offer that is the most favorable to the Heat. Memphis can offer quite a few veterans who are the right age to surround Bam Adebayo, Tyler Hero, etc. But more importantly, they also have enough draft picks to spice up a trade. Marcus Smart, Brandon Clark and Luke Kennard are proven players who can keep the Heat competitive with Butler’s impending absence.

On the other hand, The Grizzlies finally got their coveted wing player to play alongside Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. Let’s not forget that the Grizzlies are in the market for a two-way player. While they failed to land Dorian Finney-Smith, who was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, the addition of Butler should complete the missing piece in their championship puzzle.

The Grizzlies currently have a 31-15 record, good for the third seed in the West. The addition of Butler should further fuel the team for a much deeper run, with the potential trio of Butler, Jackson and Morant.

We get a replacement for Terry Rozier

Receiving heat: Colin Sexton ($18.4 million) and Svi Mykhailouk ($3.5 million)

Jazz gets: Terry Rozier ($24.9 million) and 2029 first-round draft pick (MIA)

Although Tyler Herro is out, he will need a reliable scoring partner, especially with Butler gone. Because as it stands, Terry Rozier hasn’t been a reliable scorer in a Heat uniform. Rozier is averaging 11.8 points per game while shooting 40.1% from the field and 28.9% from the bench. His scoring average is the lowest since he played with the Boston Celtics.

Rozier was acquired midway through the 2023-24 season in a trade that involved former NBA All-Star guard Kyle Lowry. Although he initially made his presence felt in Miami, this year has not been the same story.

The deal includes the Heat sending Rozier and a first-round draft pick for a reliable scorer in Collin Sexton and a shooter in Svi Mikhailiuk. Sexton is much younger and should complement Herro well. He also gives the Heat additional offensive weapons, especially when the buckets dry up. On the other hand, another scorer like Mikhailiuk should give them more depth on the wings.

On the other hand, at 30 years old, Rozier doesn’t exactly fit the Jazz’s timeline. However, the real prize of the deal will be a first-round draft pick in 2029. Utah is headed for a rebuild and picking up some draft picks to increase their draft capital is nothing.
