The Karl-Anthony Towns trade buzz is getting louder

The The New York Knicks were in crisis recently, hitting a new low with a recent loss from the Dallas Mavericks. The Knicks have already relinquished control of the second seed in the Eastern Conference and are in danger of falling even further in the standings if things continue.

One of the main issues for the Knicks during their skid has been the production, or lack thereof, from the big man Karl-Anthony Townswho has looked like a shell of his early season self in recent weeks.

The struggles have led some to wonder whether a trade can be on the horizon for the former number one overall draft pick, most recently James L. Edwards and Eric Nehm of the Athletics added fuel to that fire with some new reports.

“…as New York continues to decline and I continue to talk to people around the league, it wouldn’t surprise me if Karl-Anthony Towns gets traded. I wouldn’t bet on it, but it’s something I’m watching,” they reported.

They also noted that “a return wouldn’t be huge. But it would be considered a ‘big’ move given everything that’s happened in New York in the last 1.5 years.”

Indeed, it’s unclear how much opposing teams would be willing to give up at this point, given his recent struggles as well as his well-documented shortcomings on the defensive end of the floor.

After last year’s Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Indiana Pacers, many felt that the Knicks, who have their two best players in Towns and Jalen Brunson, both negative on defense, would be too much of a problem to overcome, and that certainly seemed to be the case in recent weeks.

Either way, the Knicks next take the court on Wednesday night in a quasi-must-win game against the Brooklyn Nets.
