The Kings discussed a DeMar DeRozan trade with the Clippers

The The Sacramento Kings were playing little surprise lately, winners of four straight games, including three against good teams at the Houston RocketsLos Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. Still, the Kings are well below the playoff line in the vaunted Western Conference, and many expect them to be sellers rather than buyers at the upcoming NBA trade deadline.

One name that has come up multiple times in trade rumors for the Kings is that of DeMar DeRozanand recently, NBA insider Michael Scotto of Hoopshape highlighted one team that allegedly entered into DeRozan talks.

“The Kings were in exploratory talks about trading DeRozan and Ellis for Clippers forward John Collins and another small salary before the Clippers won 11 of their last 13 games, league sources told HoopsHipe,” Scotto reported.

Indeed, the Clippers have finally found their groove after a rough start to the season, which may be motivating the Los Angeles front office to hold off on any moves for now.

Still, the Kings will certainly be motivated to unload as much of their aging veteran talent as possible this trade deadline to get some young pieces and future assets in the mix in Sacramento.

Another name that frequently comes up in trade discussions for the Kings is Domantas Sabonis, a big man who recently returned from an MCL injury and remains a talented rebounder and offensive player, though questions remain about his defense.

Overall, the number one priority for Sacramento will be establishing some sort of direction going forward, after entering this season with some sort of bizarre reconfiguration of the Chicago Bulls of the early 2020s.

Either way, the Kings will next take the court on Sunday night at home against the Portland Trail Blazers as they look to extend their winning streak to five.
