The Knicks are not trembling in Toronto
The Raptors start the game perfectly, with a good three. THE Nix it seems a little overloaded, but with the arrival of a replacement on the floor things are better. With 7-0, New York balanced the debates and even took control at the end of the first quarter (31-32).
This was quickly confirmed in the second quarter, when the defense of Mike Brown’s men stepped up and caused the Canadiens to become clumsy. They go 13-2, including Landry Shamet in all the good shots. After 24 minutes, it is logical that New York dominates (58-68).
An observation that remains in the third quarter. Until the last minutes when the Toronto troops finally managed to break the opponent’s defense a little. But a foolishly wasted possession – an 8-second foul without any pressure, a possible last shot at the buzzer that turns into a turnover … – undermines ambitions and the Knicks remain ahead at the start of the fourth quarter (82-87).
As earlier in the meeting, Scottie Barnes and company have a strong moment. They are not far. But once again, mistakes limit the possibilities of advancement. Jalen Brunson does not miss and scores several baskets. Generally speaking, the Knicks executives did the job in the last quarter and after a 9-0 run the victory was guaranteed (95-111). This is the third in a row for New York, and the 40th of the season.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
Solid game by the Knicks. In the first period, other knives provided valuable help to New York. Landry Shamet, for example, or even Mohammed Diawara with his 3-point shots. In the second half, it was the managers who took control. Jalen Branson with his 10 points in the last act or Karl-Anthony Towns with a complete performance (21 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists). Mike Brown’s men weren’t perfect, but they defended well and never gave up. A match that had to be made.
Raptors mistakes. So close, so far Canadians? That’s part of the feeling that dominates because Toronto was never outclassed in this encounter, but victory seemed far away at times. Small strokes of the throttle were discreet, not long enough to make a difference anyway. Above all, there were always turnovers (8 in the second half) or missed 3-pointers (8/28) to keep us from believing in those moments.
