The Knicks slap the Nets again in the derby

Karl-Anthony Towns

After a lackluster first quarter, but generally dominate Networksyou have to wait for the start of the second one to see Nix put the first pressure on the gas, terrible: 17-2! Expected against a rather weak interior sector, Karl-Anthony Towns is on the initiative of “running” and makes a total of his defenders, constantly attacking the circle.

A good way to compensate for the lack of an external address New Yorkwhile Noah Clowney, Michael Porter Jr. and Nick Claxton took turns to limit the damage before the break, going 14-4 to get their points at the line (51-48).

Unchecked, Karl-Anthony Towns then goes about his racket-busting business Brooklyn. He torments his opponents one after the other, he is helped offensively by the more aggressive Mikal Bridges, and the gap returns to over ten. Noah Clowney is doing his best to keep the Nets in touch, except the 3-point skill has increased and the score is clear (89-75).

If Noah Clowney, again, and rookie Drake Powell try to ignite the game by bringing their own to -10, Jordan Clarkson, then the inevitable Karl-Anthony Towns will start a 14-5 that kills the suspense forever. Jalen Branson is responsible for putting the last nails in the coffin and the Knicks fly, logically, to a new success in the derby (113-100).

The man of the evening is none other than Karl-Anthony Towns : 37 points and 12 rebounds in 33 minutes (14/20 shooting). Jalen Brunson was perfect in the shade (27 points), while Noah Clowney used the opportunity to record a career-high 31 points (7/13 on 3-pointers).

TO BE REMEMBERED

Karl-Anthony Towns controls the racket. If the Knicks were able to outscore the Nets 52-28 in points scored, it was primarily because Karl-Anthony Towns had fun with Nick Claxton, De’Ron Sharp, Noah Clowney and even Jaylen Wilson. Stronger, more mobile and more technical than their defenders, “KAT” put them to the test throughout the evening. As soon as Mike Brown’s men needed a run, they turned to their All-Star, who was valuable when the game-winning shots weren’t coming in the first period.

New York continues its series against Brooklyn. That makes it twelve straight for the Knicks against the Nets and they haven’t lost a New York Derby since January 28, 2023, nearly three years. At a time when the ranks of the Knicks or Nets already included only Jalen Branson, Myles McBride, Nick Claxton and De’Ron Sharp.

Brooklyn zero points at home. The Nets have won just three of their seventeen games so far, but none of those wins have come at the Barclays Center, where Jordi Fernandez’s men have therefore lost eight in as many meetings. Maybe this ugly streak will end on Friday, when they welcome the Sixers.
