The Knicks slapped the Sixers again at home
Chilling at Madison Square Garden! THE Nix are now three losses in a row, including two beautiful down jackets received at home in the space of 24 hours, against the Hawks on Friday night (99-111 after falling behind by 26 points) and last night against the Sixers. We would think the return of Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson would give Mike Brown’s men a boost. Nothing happened!
Philadelphia kept its foot on the gas to reach a 19-point lead and managed to win well in the end of the match without panic, 130-119. Behind the Edgecombe-George-Embiid trio that supported him throughout the match, Tyrese McKay impressed again with his 36 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists… and 2 blocks.
Like the day before, New York sank in the second quarter, unable to stop the fiery VJ Edgecombe, the author of 18 points in the first 15 minutes on the floor, going 4/5 on 3-pointers (41-49).
Tyrese Maxey took the lead just before the break, also made a series of baskets with 10 points, including two arrows from distance in less than three minutes to create the first deficit of the match (50-63). More skilled than the previous day, the New Yorkers kept their heads above water thanks to three-pointers by Brunson-Anunoby before halftime (58-66). But Philly bucked the trend as soon as they returned from the locker room.
Paul George set the tone with two 3-pointers, and Tyrese Maxey topped the offer by hitting three shots from behind the arc, enough to get the Knicks within striking distance (74-90).
Joel Embiid contributed, scoring and making an assist, and was able to carry his team to the end despite a bit of a wrist scare. Because, unlike the return the day before, New York was unable to overcome Philly in the final act, which was well controlled by Nick Nurse’s men, from Jared McCain’s three-pointer to Joel Embiid’s 8 points, not forgetting the acceleration of the two rockets of Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe to secure the Sixers’ tenth away season, third away success.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Tyrese Maxey gives Jalen Brunson a lesson (again). Too fast, too skilled, too unpredictable… Tyrese Maxey made the Knicks defense dizzy and offered himself a new “master class” upon arrival, shooting 14/22 including 6/9 from 3-point range. It’s also the second time she’s faced New York’s Jalen Brunson on home soil and the second time she’s dominated the debates, winning in the end.
– VJ Edgecombe’s Flash. He looks like Tyrese Makey’s twin with his explosiveness and production on the court. He warmed up quickly last night with the outside skill to fuel those 26 points, but if we had to remember just one action, it would be his counter on Mychal Bridges’ 3-pointer in the corner, followed by a big counter-attack dunk to cool MSG down for good in the final act.
– Joel Embiid finished the match with a smile. The impression of seeing him walking on eggshells and risking a lot with every action. But the Cameroon menhir is holding up pretty well, as was the case last night. Another clean game to his credit, with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, for a meeting that ended with a smile after scoring his first dunk of the season.
