The LaMelo Ball trade rumors are getting more cold water

When it comes to NBA trade rumors, there was a bit of a stir last week when a report came out that Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball may be open to a trade amid the team’s poor start to the season. After the report, Ball took to social media to essentially call the report false. And over the weekend, new information appeared to suggest that any trade rumors involving the Hornets star guard they don’t have much meritas of now, according to Stein Line’s Jake Fisher.

While Fisher acknowledges that LaMelo Ball’s potential trade talks could eventually heat up as the trade deadline nears, there isn’t much going on right now.

“By Thursday afternoon, I had heard enough from rival team executives curious about LaMelo Ball’s availability that checking with sources with direct knowledge of Ball’s status was necessary. However, I was almost as cautioned that it would be premature to go too far with Ball’s trade bid,” Fisher reports. “One source said it was too early. Another source said the Hornets could eventually get to a point before the Feb. 5 trade deadline where they decide to seriously make offers for the former All-Star guard, but reiterated the idea that we’re not there yet.”

Fisher also reports that Ball is among the top guards, along with Ja Morant and Trae Young, that rival teams are monitoring for potential trade availability. All three players are currently on teams that are underachieving through the first month of the regular season.

Ball appeared in 10 of the Hornets’ first 16 games with just over 30 minutes per game. He is averaging 21.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 9.3 assists and 1.3 steals on 39.3 percent shooting from the field, 28.6 percent from the 3-point line and 87.5 percent from the free throw line.
