The latest Lakers team linked to the Bucks is the Giannis trade, but there’s a catch
It’s no surprise that the teams are getting ready to compete Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, as he is one of the most dominant players in the league. With a report that Antetokounmpo is open to moving to another teamand the Milwaukee Bucks are willing to move him, teams are trying to find a way to get a deal done.
Over the past year, teams like the New York Knicks and Miami Heat have been the talk of the town, and there is another team that wants to enter a bidding war: the Los Angeles Lakers. Howard Beck talked about the possibility of the purple and gold going to Antetokounmpo.
“I was told recently that the Lakers are a team to keep an eye on Giannis’ standpoint just as another team of interest. But again, there’s the difficulty in terms of trading assets. They’re another team where come summer they get more on the draft capital side and they get more clarity when they figure out where LeBron is or isn’t and where Austin Reaves is a free agent, because he Zay Beck said he’s a free agent.
When the Lakers first traded for Luka Doncic, there were thoughts that they could potentially go after Antetokounmpo years from now. It wasn’t certain how he would accomplish that, but as the offseason approaches, things could become clearer.
The Lakers will reportedly ask LeBron James to take a pay cut if he wants to return to the Lakers next season, with the possibility of him bouncing somewhere, or he could just retire. As for Austin Reaves, if they don’t want to sign him to an extension, that’s money saved to make a trade for Antetokounmpo.
There are definitely some other things that have to go in the Lakers’ favor, and they may have to hire other teams to make the deal attractive to the Bucks.
