The Lions expect Ben Johnson to take a key coach with him to the Bears
Earlier this week, The Chicago Bears have taken a step into the future by hiring the former offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions Ben Johnson will be the next coach of the franchise. Hopefully, Johnson will be able to help unlock some aspects of former No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams’ game that has made him one of the most highly regarded prospects in recent NFL draft history.
Now it appears Johnson is hoping to bring some of his former coaching colleagues with him to Chicago, according to NFL insider Carmen Vitali of FOX Sports on the CHGO Bears Podcast (via @Bears1Tek on X).
“We’ve already seen Hank Fraley potentially come in with Ben Johnson — the offensive line coach,” Vitali said. “He can be the offensive coordinator with Ben Johnson running the game.” I love that thought, and I think it’s a foregone conclusion in Detroit, that Hank will go with Ben. At least that’s what people expect up there, according to what I’ve been told.”
Fraley was the architect of arguably the best offensive line in the NFL this year for the Lions, and he could certainly bring some of his expertise to a Bears team that has struggled in that department for much of 2024.
How much will Ben Johnson help the Bears?

Ben Johnson was arguably the hottest name on the coaching market, drawing interest from other teams’ head coaches as early as the 2023 offseason due to his success with the Lions.
Detroit’s great season came to an abrupt halt Saturday against the Washington Commanders, as Johnson’s unit turned the ball over five times and also had some unfortunate plays, including an interception thrown by wide receiver Jameson Williams.
Still, that doesn’t take away the dominance Detroit’s offense has displayed all year, a dominance Bears fans hope will carry over to the Windy City when next season begins.
With their coach and possibly some assistants already assembled, the Bears will now turn their attention to the NFL Draft, which will take place in April from Green Bay.
