The Mavericks, Lakers still plan to play Saturday night despite the impending winter weather
The The Dallas Mavericks are still preparing to host the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night despite the impending wintry weather expected to affect the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The game remains scheduled for 8:30 PM ET on ABC at the American Airlines Center. Dallas enters the match with a score of 19-26, while Los Angeles is 26-17.
ClutchPoints Mavericks reporter Joey Mistretta reported Friday that the organization continues to monitor conditions as he moves forward with game plans.
“The Mavericks still plan to play the Lakers at 7:30pm CT Saturday night in Dallas. Updates will be provided as they become available. The Mavs are closely monitoring the weather and will take the necessary precautions to ensure a safe game experience,” Mistreta wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Fans are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time in light of the upcoming weather.”
A winter storm is looming as the Lakers and Mavericks prepare for Saturday’s matchup

The concern stems from forecasts released earlier this week. Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday that the National Weather Service put the region under a winter storm watch.
“The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for this weekend in Dallas-Fort Worth that could include snow, ice and freezing temperatures. Freezing precipitation is expected to begin Friday afternoon and could continue into Saturday night,” Curtis reported.
“Several airlines have issued advisories to prepare air travelers for the potential impact of severe weather.”
On the field, Dallas enters the contest riding a four-game winning streak. The The Mavericks recently beat the Golden State Warriors 123-115 on Thursday night, continuing a streak of improved play after a slow start to the season.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, looks set to bounce back after a 112-104 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday. The Lakers nearly erased a 26-point deficit before falling late.
No schedule changes have been announced as of Friday afternoon, although officials continue to monitor the weather leading into Saturday night.
