The Mavericks must make 1 deal with the 2025-26 NBA trade season

Anthony Davis was the centerpiece of Dallas’ comeback in that deal, and he spent most of his time with the Mavericks on the sidelines.

Davis’ lack of ability has played a huge role in the Mavericks living up to expectations this year. now, Davis is even rumored to be a trade candidate yourself. If the Mavericks don’t want to give up on the Davis experiment just yet, there are some moves they can make to improve the roster. Agreement for Dennis Schroderfor example, it makes a lot of sense.

Not only did Davis spend a lot of time with the Mavericks in street clothes, but Kyrie Irving is currently sidelined with a torn ACL. It’s possible the all-time great point guard will return at some point this season, but the Mavericks shouldn’t count on it. Without him, the point guard game in Dallas was a disaster.

D’Angelo Russell has too much of a streak again, Brandon Williams’ lack of 3-point shooting has limited his time on the floor, and Ryan Nembhard has only recently become a rotation player. Nembhardt has enough playmaking and stability with the ball in his hands to really look like a rotation player up front, but the struggles of Russell and Williams lead to where the Mavericks should be trying to find replacement players up front.

Dennis Schroder finally got paid in the offseason after years of being a journeyman of sorts, but Sacramento Kings may blow things up this year. If they do, it might actually make sense for the Mavericks to get buyers to move and trade for a point guard. Schroder was shut down for two seasons after this year. He would come in and give the Mavericks a boost while Irving is out, and upon his return he can play with or behind Irving.

Choice number one Cooper Flagg spent time at quarterback this year, which illustrates the team’s need for a leadoff hitter, is more drastic than meets the eye. Schroder is a career 13.9 points per game scorer who offers plenty of playmaking and a sharp defensive attitude.

Would the Kings trade Dennis Schroeder?

The Kings are 6-22 and officially in the game last place in the Western Conference. It was obvious even before the season started that the trio of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis was not going to work. With Sabonis missed most of the season with an injury, team was even worse than originally expected, and now the Kings may have no choice but to blow the whole thing up.

Sabonis would certainly get huge revenue from the trade, and while the trade packages for LaVine and DeRozan wouldn’t be that big, the team needs to move on from those two far more than they need to end their relationship with Sabonis. However, if some or all of these stars are traded, Sacramento could go all-in on a rebuild.

That could include trading Schroder, despite the fact that he was signed in the offseason. The Mavericks could offer an intriguing package to the Kings. Williams has been ineffective but has continued to perform well since going undrafted in 2021. The guard is averaging 10.8 points per game. That figure isn’t that far behind Schroder, and he’s a much younger option.

Caleb Martin’s tenure in Dallas has been disastrous, but he could return to form with a change of scenery. The Kings would also add two second-round picks in this deal. While Sacramento would certainly prefer to add a first-round pick, the opinion and value of second-rounders seems to have increased in recent years due to the current state of NBA finances and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

A Kings trade seems inevitable, but Sacramento may not add as much future capital as it would like when all is said and done. That extends to a potential trade involving Schroeder, but the point guard could certainly be on the move sooner rather than later.
