The Mavericks will explore the Anthony Davis trade market

The Dallas Mavericks They haven’t had a great start to the season, with a mix of injuries and firing CEO Nick Harrison. They had Cooper Flagg playing point guard since their options are limited and Kyrie Irving is out, and their offense is one of the worst in the league.

This start could challenge the Mavericks start picking up the phones for trades, and one player rumored to be in those talks is Anthony Davisaccording to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

“Multiple team sources said the Mavs, who are 4-11 and out of the playoffs in the West, will also explore the trade market for Davis, a 10-time All-Star big man who was instrumental in getting Luka Doncic’s contract back, as part of that process before this season’s deadline,” McMahon wrote.

Davis has only played in five games this season as he continues to deal with a calf injury, and has played just 14 total games for the Mavericks since being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers last season. When Davis is on the floor, he is one of the most dominant big men in the league, but the Mavericks have rarely seen that version of him due to injuries.

Now, it looks like the Mavericks want to see what they can get for Davis, and may be looking for funds or young players to fill out the group they have now. At the same time, they couldn’t see what the true potential of this team could be when everyone is healthy, and most likely won’t know until later in the year when Irving returns.

At that point, it may be too late, and it depends on how serious the Mavericks are about moving on from Davis. For now, they hope he’ll be back on the field soon, and he seems to be progressing well.
