The Mean Green will add a new GM, DC under Neil Brown
North Texas Speedway Mean Green personnel overhaul under newly hired head coach Neil Brown it continued on Monday, as the Mean Green made two significant additions to their football infrastructure.
According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Brown is stepping away from major Power Five programs to build his front office and defensive staff. Zenitz reported that Texas director of scouting Erin Joe will become director of North Texas new general managergiving the program an experienced staff evaluator with deep connections throughout the region.
“North Texas is expected to hire Texas scouting director Erin Joe as its general manager, sources tell CBS Sports. Before Texas, Joe was the general manager at Georgia Tech. Before that, he worked at Alabama,” Zenit announced on X, formerly Twitter.
Joe’s arrival is no accident. He and Brown formed a bond last season when Brown spent time in Austin fired by West Virginia.
He worked as an analyst for Steve Sarkisian, providing behind-the-scenes input while interacting with members of the Longhorns scouting and staff. That connection helped pave the way for the move to Denton.
With Texas consistently producing elite recruiting classes, Joe’s background in building rosters and evaluating in-state prospects positions him as a key figure for a North Texas program looking to elevate its talent base.
Neal Brown also brings in Matt Povledge to lead the defense

Next to Joe, Mean Green are posted for employment Baylor defensive coordinator Matt Poulge for the same role, second from Zenica.
“Baylor defensive coordinator Matt Povledge is expected to be hired as the defensive coordinator at North Texas under new coach Neil Brown, sources tell CBS Sports. He has worked at Baylor for the past three years. He was previously the defensive coordinator at Oregon,” Zenit announced on X, formerly Twitter.
Brown and Paulidge previously worked together at Kentucky in 2013 when Brown served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach while Paulidge joined Mark Stoops’ staff as a graduate assistant. Both have moved up the coaching ranks since then, with Povledge taking over as coordinator at Oregon and Baylor.
North Texas is coming off an 11-win season and still has the New Mexico Bowl ahead of it, although Brown will not be the coach at the game. His immediate priority is stabilizing the roster and retaining key pieces before implementing his vision.
