The NBA celebrates its new TV deal with a great first month

Adam Silver in the NBAThe NBA can celebrate his new TV deal. The big league says so that more than 60 million viewers tuned in, in the United States, to nationally televised games NBC/Peacock, Prime Video etc ESPN during the first month of the regular season. This is the best start in the last fifteen years, outside of the 2011/12 season which started on Christmas Day, the traditional peak of the audience, after the “lockout”.

This strong start therefore allows the NBA to celebrate its new record 11-year, $76 billion deal with its broadcasters. Especially since the frenzy goes far beyond the boundaries of classic television.

On social media, NBA-branded content already has more than 30 billion views, either on the league’s official platforms or on other media platforms. This is also a record at this stage of the season. On the business side, an online store NBAStore.com shows an increase of more than 20% in sales of derivative products, driven by the “new generation of stars” of the NBA: Shai Giljus-Alexander, Anthony Edwards, Victor Wembanyama, Tyrese Maxey, Cooper Flagg, Jalen Branson or even Luka Doncic.

The rooms are also full

And digital follows the same trend. League Pass subscriptions increased by 10%, while time spent watching matches via the platform increased by 8%.

Finally, the rooms remain full. Attendance, for now, is at the level of last season, the second best in history with about 97% occupancy. Ten franchises have sold out all of their home tickets so far: Celtics, Cavaliers, Warriors, Rockets, Heat, Knicks, Thunder, Suns, Spurs and Jazz. Others, such as Atlanta or Charlotte, recorded growth close to 10%.

And in Europe, Prime Video is crowd-pleasing for NBA games, a meeting between Spurs and the Networks on October 26, which was a regular season match in European “prime time” in particular the most watched in history on the Old Continent, excluding the Christmas meetings and matches moved to Paris.
