The NBA investigation into Kawhi Leonard may turn up nothing

The Los Angeles Clippers they are having a bad season on and off the field. Alarmingly, the Kawhi Leonard of the Clippers is in the middle of a scandal it could get him and the team kicked out. But now recent events indicate that the NBA is investigating Aspiration may not reveal any felony, according to The Athletic.

The Clippers have had a lot of interesting problems this season, including the sudden departure of Chris Paul. But this scandal became the biggest cloud hanging over it. It all stemmed from Aspiration, a former sponsor of the Clippers. Investigative journalist Pablo Torre reported that in 2021, Leonard signed an endorsement deal with Aspiration worth $28 million. This meant that he received payments even if he did not work.

What made this so controversial was that the organization linked the payments to Leonard as a member of the Clippers. This raised concerns about how owner Steve Ballmer could manipulate the NBA’s salary cap rules to pay Leonard more without using the cap.

The Clippers have always maintained that they did nothing wrong in their dealings with Aspiration. Ballmer contributed $50 million to Aspiration in 2021, which only further confuses the way they ran the business.

Despite that, The Clippers have struggled to avoid drama off the courtbecause it seriously affected them on the field. The Clippers just beat the Atlanta Hawks 115-92. But before that, they lost five straight and went 2-13 in November, highlighting an ugly stretch that sent them to the bottom of the standings.

When the season started, many predicted that the Clippers could rule the Pacific Division. Instead, they endured controversy and injuries to some of their best players. This made fans angry with the Clippers. Even if Leonard doesn’t face punishment from the NBA for whatever happened with Aspiration, he may not find better rewards on the court as the Clippers continue to struggle.
